Glue (wood)

There are a variety of wood glue types, like contact cements which bond in less than a minute to polyvinyls which require over an hour to dry. You must take special precaution when removing wood glue from carpet. Because these glues are made of a variety of materials some can be cleaned with soap and water or depending on the severity of the stain and the type of glue you might need to use strong solvents. Here are a couple methods you can use to remove these types of stains from your carpet.

First, heat up a cup of white vinegar on the stove until on high temperature right before it starts to simmer. Next, use a spray bottle to spray a generous amount on the affected area. After you’ve sprayed the carpet allow the solution to soak for about 30 minutes before removing. Remember to always test the solution in an inconspicuous area to ensure no damage will be cause to your carpet. Using a microfiber rag scrub the glue to loosen it, make sure to not use excessive force. The solution used should soften glue and allow it to be lifted with ease. Lastly, to completely remove glue from carpet use an appropriate household detergent, or steam clean affected area.

The second method you can use is to first begin by administering a solvent on, around, and under deposit. Next, use a clean dry towel to cover the affected area. Proceed, by using a steam iron, apply it to the affected area and keep it on for about 1 to 2 minutes on medium temperature. The heat from the steam iron allows for most of the glue to be removed, what is left will be soft, wet, and hot. Quickly apply a solvent gel, using a terry cloth towel gently agitate and wipe the residual glue from carpet. Lastly, apply a solvent to the affected area, and agitate gently. Rinse thoroughly via hot water extraction.
