Sometimes mold or mildew can get into our carpet, and it can leave a nasty stain. Fortunately you can easily remove these satins by using some common household materials. Here are a few methods to try if you have any of these stains.
First, you need to apply a dilute solution to the affected area and agitate gently, but thoroughly. Then, you need to do a hot water extraction clean. Next, you need to dry carpet by using the wand from your vacuum cleaner then blot with towel. Then, using a trigger sprayer, apply an oxidizer to the affected area and gently agitate. Then lastly, just allow it to dry. It could take from 15 minutes to 5 hours for the stain to disappear, as it reacts to the oxidizer.
This method you can use for mildew stains:
First begin by removing as much of the mildew from carpet by using a vacuum cleaner. Then, mix a solution of ½ tsp. of liquid dishwashing detergent and a cup of warm water. Apply the solution by blotting area with towel or sponge and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. Next, you need to rinse the area with water and blot dry. Then, mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia and a cup of warm water. Using a clean towel apply the ammonia onto the affected area and allow to sit for about 3 to 5 minutes. Lastly, use a sponge to remove the solution and blot dry with a clean white towel. If possible dry with a fan or electric heater.
This method you can use for Mold stains:
Begin by brushing away any mold with a bristle brush and then vacuum the remaining mold. Next, you will need to use a spray bottle and mix hydrogen peroxide and water. Apply enough of the solution to the affected area, and allow the area to dry, then apply solution a second time, and allow sitting for about 15 minutes. Proceed by using a sponge to scrub the area and remove the stain. After you have scrubbed the area apply baking soda and leave it overnight. Lastly, in the morning you need to vacuum the carpet to remove the baking soda.
Always remember to test these solutions before applying them to your carpet. You can also contact a professional for any questions you might have, if you don’t feel comfortable applying these solutions to your carpet yourself.
